Recent flash install broken?

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

If you recently installed flash on an Ubuntu system the chances are most likely that it is broken. You can confirm this by opening a Website which uses Flash extensively. Like Youtube , IBNLive etc. Although an Update isn’t available there is a way you can fis this problem pretty easily.

Please note that this is is a temporary fix only and it is recommended that you wait for an update rather than install the temporary fix if possible. Thanks to Daradib for the post on ubuntuforums.org which solved my problem. You can find the post here. Please make sure you do install the right file from the page if you are using the temporary fix.

Screenlets error in Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 64 bit installs.

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , ,

In the previous article we fixed gdesklets so that it would work on a 64 bit install. However most of the better eye candy widgets in my honest opinion are screenlets. Although installation of screenlets are pretty easy getting them to run on your machine might not be as easy. The usual error that many get is “Unable to connect or launch daemon. Some values may be displayed incorrectly.” Let try some methods of correcting this.

Gdesklets not working on 64 bit installs?

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , ,

Well I couldn’t post anything yesterday cause I was rather busy reinstalling Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon after running a package called startup manager on it to fix my usplash. I should have known better not to try to fix something that didn’t work with the LiveCD anyway. Nonetheless after the reinstall I wanted to use gDesklets but I couldn’t get it to run after installing it. For some reason it wouldn’t connect to the daemon. Anyway with the help of some posts on the forum I found out what you could do to get them to work again.

Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon Installation 101

Tagged Under : , , , ,

Ubuntu Banner

After alot of consideration I finally have found out what to start my blog off with. I’ve been compiling a document with some tips and tricks for Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon through the past few days. Basically stuff newcomers like me would need after migrating to a totally new platform.

Although the document included isn’t exactly refined to a point of excellence. I believe it contains enough details for a person intimidated to install Ubuntu on his system to begin the process I haven’t posted the guide as it is on my blog, but I have included a link where you can access it as a pdf file. I’ll be including the guide with better images after I manage to get screen shots of the Install process while running it on Virtualbox.

You can download the guide here - Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon Installation - For Beginners .
